FGV Cultural Center

The Opening Session will be held at the Centro Cultural FGV (FGV Cultural Center) from Fundação Getulio Vargas (Getulio Vargas Foundation). The building is part of the architectural complex conceived by Oscar Niemeyer and inaugurated in 2013. The Cultural Center houses an auditorium, exhibition area and the new Mario Henrique Simonsen Library.

How to get to Fundação Getulio Vargas/FGV and the surroundings of Zona Sul (the South Area of Rio)

Airports

The two airports located in Rio de Janeiro are: Santos Dumont Airport, located in downtown and closest to FGV in Botafogo; and Rio de Janeiro International Airport (Galeão/Tom Jobim), located on Ilha do Governador.

Santos Dumont Airport: conveniently located downtown, this is the second major airport serving Rio de Janeiro and basically operates regional flights, connecting the main cities of the country. The localization allows quick access to major hotels and tourist facilities. Nearby there are many taxis companies and buses lines operating to diverse points of Rio de Janeiro. The journey to Fundação Getulio Vargas takes around fifteen minutes. It is also possible to pick up the new Light Rail Vehicle (Veículo Leve sobre Trilhos/VLT) that circulates in the central area of the city, connecting the airport to metro stations, bus stations, ferries and cruise terminals.

An alternative is to take the executive bus of the Real company, Line 2018 - Aeroporto - Alvorada (Via Orla da Zona Sul and Rodoviária). The buses are comfortable, with air conditioning, and operate from 5:30 a.m. to 10:35 p.m., with a 20 minute interval. This line connects the International Airport and Santos Dumont Airport. Rio de Janeiro International Airport (Galeão/Antonio Carlos (Tom) Jobim): located about 20 km from downtown, it is served by several express ways, such as the Red Line (Linha Vermelha), the Yellow Line (Linha Amarela) and Brazil's Avenue (Avenida Brasil), which facilitates the trips to the main areas of Rio, as South and North Area (Zona Sul and Zona Norte). The urban transport system offers taxis and special bus lines, as well as the new There are several taxi companies operating 24 hours, whose stands are in the landing areas of the passenger terminals. The journey to the FGV takes about forty minutes.

Metro

One of the quickest and easiest way to get to FGV is the metro. The stations that have integration with the VLT are Carioca and Cinelândia stations, in downtown. The opening hours of lines 1, 2 and 4 are from Monday to Saturday, from 5:00 am to midnight; Sundays and holidays, from 7am to 11pm.

The Flamengo station, closest to the Fundação Getulio Vargas, has exits to Paulo VI avenue/Barão de Itambi and Marquês de Abrantes street. You can download the maps of the subway lines and the surroundings of Flamengo station.

Bus

To get to the FGV, you must use the bus lines that pass through Praia de Botafogo. Click here for more information about the bus lines in Rio de Janeiro.

 

Car

In both airports there are car rental companies, some equipped with GPS, which makes it easier to move around.

Suggested route: leaving downtown, head towards Presidente Vargas Avenue, cross the Santa Bárbara Tunnel, then Pinheiro Machado Street and finally, Praia de Botafogo. Alternatively: head towards Marcelo Alencar Tunnel, then take Infante Dom Henrique Avenue (Aterro) and go around Beira Mar Avenue in Glória neighborhood, then head towards Praia do Flamengo and Oswaldo Cruz Avenue to Praia de Botafogo.

The route takes around 15 minutes. The FGV does not have parking for visitors, but there are some parkings nearby.
