About
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA), the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the G20 Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) invite you to participate in the International Seminar “Challenges and Opportunities for Agriculture in Latin America”, to be held on October 10th and 11th 2019, at the FGV Cultural Center, located at Praia de Botafogo, 190, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
This Seminar will discuss the difficulties and prospects for agriculture in Latin America, a region that currently accounts for a quarter of total exports in the sector. To strengthen the region's participation in agricultural trade and keep pace with the dynamism characteristic of modern agro-industrial production, it is required investments, research and development, and effective policies.
The pattern of development to be pursued by agribusiness in Latin America must be sustainable and inclusive, increasingly incorporating small and medium farmers into its production chain. These entrepreneurs have relevant participation in the region's agricultural production. Therefore, the access to technological innovation contributes significantly to the improvement of farmers’ welfare. An efficient and diversified production will be more prepared to face the challenges and reap the opportunities created by the new market requirements and consumers’ preferences.
