Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, May 26th - 28th, 2025

Submission of Abstract CLOSED on February 9th, 2025

Confirmation of Acceptance by February 28th

The 8th International Conference on Hydropower Scheduling in Competitive Electricity Markets will be held at FGV EMAp, Rio de Janeiro, from May 26 to 28, 2025. Following the tradition of all previous editions, held in Norway and organized by SINTEF Energy Research and The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the conference will bring together academics, practitioners and researchers in Energy, especially in Hydroelectric Energy Generation, to present the latest research results, ongoing developments, best practices and applications related to the complex environment of hydro scheduling and its surroundings.

The conference will cover the topic of hydropower scheduling and hydro-related topics, with special attention to Environmental challenges, Integration of new elements to the Energy Grid (e.g. energy storage, demand response, hydrogen), Machine Learning and Optimization techniques. Keynote and invited speakers are invited to address and introduce to the different topics. Participants are invited to submit abstracts for presentation according to the following topics:

  • hydro scheduling in decarbonized power systems;
  • integration of new elements to the Energy Grid;
  • environmental challenges and multiple water usages in hydro scheduling;
  • computational and methodological advances in hydro scheduling;
  • machine Learning and Optimization techniques applied to hydro scheduling
  • practical experiences and best practices in hydro scheduling;
  • investment and expansion planning in hydro-dominated systems;
  • value of digitalization and new measurements in hydro scheduling;
  • application of hydrological models in hydro scheduling;
  • risk management in hydro scheduling;

The deadline for abstract submissions has been extended to February 9th, 2025. The abstract may be up to 2 pages in length and should include: (1) objective (2) methodology (3) (expected) results. No specific format is required. Abstracts should be submitted to hpsc2025@fgv.br

The organizing committee will confirm acceptance/rejection by February 28th. The selection criteria are relevance, quality and originality.

Authors of accepted abstracts will be asked to hold an oral presentation at the conference, and are also invited to submit full papers for a special issue of Energy Systems (https://www.springer.com/journal/12667). The deadline for submission will be approximately one month after the Conference.
